Stella, this is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever read on Substack. Such a luminous slice of life. The simple domestic details tell so much. It’s an honor to share part of your day as you care for your parents and to meet the others who are helping you do so. Peace and strength to you all.
Thank you, Julie. I’ve also been sending daily photo essays to my siblings who are all overseas. The process allows me to stay creative, grounds me and i enjoy doing it at the end of the day before I retire for bed.
Thank you, Rebecca! I appreciate your kind words. My Tagalog is rusty but I am getting used to speaking and hearing it again 24/7. Being here also brings back many childhood memories.
I resonated with this so much, Stella. It felt like I was home again. And the photographs are so lovely especially the one of you reaching out to your father.
Thanks Michelle! I was just telling you last July I wasn’t going to travel anymore till the end of the year but here I am. I’m helpinf out my sister look after my parents while she is away. I’m grateful to have this time with them. You never know right?
This is so lovely. Such kind helpers and the way your dad responds. It reminds me of my dad when he was ill. Always polite, trying to be positive and immensely grateful and respectful of those who looked after him.
You have a good family, Stella...
PS: I have two Phillipino friends at my ballet class - Raquel and Mina. I adore them.
Thank you, Prue. I am truly grateful that my family is surrounded with loving care and support. Caregivers are walking angels in this earth. We feel blessed.
Thanks for this! What a lovely window into the way that, though we may want to think otherwise, life is lived in the distractions :) I'm new here to Substack, and look forward to reading more of your Sunday writings! I hope you will also visit me at Moments, where I share weekly photography capturing moments of connection in nature and everyday life - along with the story of what was happening behind the camera in that little moment!
Thank you, Sydney. Welcome to Substack and to Sundays with Stella! I'm glad you are joining me in this creative journey. The community is small and intimate here. I hope we'll continue to exchange thoughts and inspire each other. I just subscribed to Moments and look forward to your writing and photography.

Thank you, Ann. Your words are a balm to my spirit. 🙏
My Filipino friends will love this.
Please do share with your Filipino friends. They’ll enjoy the dialogue too. Thank you!
We have a large Filipino population here, and most are doctors or nurses.
Lovely writing, Stella, and a beautiful photo of you. Glad you are capturing these moments.

Thanks Joan! I appreciate you tuning in every Sunday and spending some time with me. Hugs to Gui!
As always, a beautiful Sunday highlight. Thank you for sharing the cultural insights and language of the world of you and your parents. A delight. ♥️

So beautiful. Both the words and the photos. They bring me back to my mom’s house.
Thank you, Stephanie! That is wonderful to hear. I appreciate it.
Send my love to the motherland! X
