Thanks for sharing, Stella, these are wonderfully moody and timeless. I live the lack of detail that automatically sets the scene at a particular time and place.
File size, I reduce everything to 1096px on the longest side at 96dpi. I'm not sure what resolution Substack compresses photos at but that seems to work so far.
Thanks, Xavi! I also appreciate the restack. I've been saving my files at 1500 px at 72 dpi. Like perfectlight, it's good to know I can go down to about 1000 px.
Thanks, Marcel! I appreciate the tip. I will try that next time. I've been saving my files at 1500 px at 72 dpi. Good to know I can go down to about 1000 px.
Thank you, Manuela! And, I appreciate the restack. Yes, isn't that last image a beauty? It's the most obscure one from the set but somehow, I love it too.
Thanks for looking and chiming in, Andrew! And a huge thank you to Saul Leiter for the inspiration. I know we are both fans of his work. Hope you are well!
Stella, these are beyond beautiful - they are mesmerising. I feel as if I'm caught on a 1950s street in a downpour, hurrying so fast without my umbrella that everyone around me simply flashes past in a second. Absolutely awesome images!
Thanks, Rebecca! I'm glad to hear these images made you feel like you were right there in the middle of the action. This made my former commute bearable. In fact, it came to a point where I look forward to the rain because I can photograph!
That's so great, Stella - wanting it to rain just so you can get such amazing shots! I love this - you're turning something widely considered undesirable into something of such beauty. There are a gazillion life lessons right there, aren't there?! 🙌
Thank you, Sir Manny! I agree with your perspective. It's anti-everything I've learned in photography (ha, ha, ha!). I guess I'm at that point in my creative journey where I'd like to break the rules and see what happens.
Beautiful work! This was really a perfect application, it came out stunning. I feel as though I've just take a walk down a rainy sidewalk, darting from awning-covered-entry to awning-covered-entry!
treat substack like any other website so an image of 1000 pixels long at 72dpi will suffice

What size do you share at?

Great set of images Stella. Like perfectlight said, I also keep it at 1000px on the long side.

Omg, in love with these images!! The very last one is my favorite. Stunning!

Brilliantly atmospheric photos. I like them a lot.

Very well thank you. Looking forward to his centennial exhibition coming to England next month!
So lucky! First it was Sugimoto and then Leiter next month- so exciting!
The atmosphere is fantastic. Reminds me of the cold, grey and rainy days here in Hamburg when everyone just rushes to get home.
Thank you, Susanne! I appreciate it. I'm glad I unearthed these outtakes and gave them new life. I love it when that happens!

Absolutely, Rebecca! The mind shift wouldn't have been possible without the project.
Nice tintypes Stella. Your pictures prove that having a sharp focus is just ONE way of taking a picture. Picture blur has its own charm.

Wonderful Stella!
Thank you, Charlie! Hope all is well with you.
Still vertical. Haha
Oh wow! I sort of stumbled upon this post and I’m so glad I did!
Thank you for looking and chiming in, Lauren! Happy to know these images inspired you.
