Back in the 60s, to cover up the living room’s mottled chocolate-brown and white upholstery pattern that had worn thin, my mother used slipcovers and throw pillows and drapes in her favorite colors of purple and an aqua green.
Though hundreds and hundreds of miles from the nearest Florida room or lanai, one of my grandmothers and some of the great-aunts favored bold florals in their houses, similar to this -
